Ed Note: The current commish has taken over the mantle of previewing the season. Unclear how much action this blog will get during the season, if any. But we finally have a truly independent free press, so I guess that's something. Anyway, have a good time this weekend.
Each year about 48 hours before the draft our commissioner posts a season preview. It's filled with incomprehensible stats (wtf is PAA) and has gotten lower and lower effort over the years. (Ed: Last year I predicted Ajay would be the champ.) While I am a temporary commissioner, I fully intend to uphold the traditions of this league. As such, here is your yearly season preview that is lower effort than all prior years' season previews.
Draft Day logistics
This isn't really a logistics section but some random musings on how I plan to use (abuse?) the commissioners power during the draft.
Pee break: Roughly 90 mins into the draft. Plan around it.
Lost wifi: I’ll rollback a pick if the auto draft clearly drafted while you lost connection. I won’t pause every time someone loses connection though. (Ed: Evan Reap has left the draft room.)
Non league member berating: Former league members have 1 free berating per draft. Mid draft, you (nick, kumpf and technically bruno) may choose to ask for a pause. At that point you get to shame someone mercilessly for the pick they just made for 1 minute uninterrupted. I will facilitate via Facetime as needed. (Ed: This is a terrible idea)
Incomprehensible stat section
In honor of the bitcoin boys - This section will completely ignore PAA & instead offer odds on any of the players in our league winning this year. I will take bets up to 25 dollars from each player.
Levine - 8/1. Consistently in the running. Will be cowardly and trade rape AGD without hesitation. A quiet killer.
AGD - 14/1. Who knows with this team. I think recent years have been weak, but I don't actually know and I'm too lazy to look it up. (Ed: So lazy that he doesn't know or care to mention that Belf is gone)
Zacherman - 10/1. He’s due. Draft's in his backyard.
Weiss - 25/1. Probably the biggest risk on this board. Wild swings year to year. I have no idea when and how he won, but he’s part of the two time champs slack, so deserves some credit.
Esco - 12/1. Had CeeDee, Jamar, and JSN last year and lost. That just makes me happy. It's not really relevant to his odds, but I feel like we should remember that anyway.
Marco - 8/1. Easily could put things together this year, probably would have won if he didn't trade me Puka last year. No idea if that's true and doesn't impact his odds this year, but I still think we should remember it.
Gutman - 30/1. Sorry Gut, just feels like every year you get further and further away from actually knowing anything about what’s going on with the league. You’ll always have that epic semifinal win against Kumpf like 8 years ago. That was glorious. (Ed: 😑)
Barney - 50/1. Doesn’t really need much explanation. (Ed: Wildly generous)
Ajay - 10/1. Not due, and haven’t done research, but 3 titles is deserving of respect
Billy - 14/1. Pretty similar thought process to AGD. I don't really remember any of his teams but I do remember his stars and scrubs teams being fun during drafts. Lets hope for more of that.
Alan - 10/1. Not due, and haven’t done research, but 3 titles is deserving of respect
Bennett - 50/1. The eagles are going to suck this year and therefore Bennett will suck. Mejia drafting would probably shift this to 25/1. Sucks to be in the Barnard category
